Creating alerts

Build alerts from scratch or from templates, with sensible thresholds.

Create an alert

Open Performance Alerts

Paid Social Ads → Manage → Performance Alerts → Create Alert.

Choose the type

Performance Change, Milestone, Creation, or Change. See Alert types.

Configure the trigger

Pick metric, direction, threshold, and baseline (for Performance/Change). Pick target value (for Milestone). Pick scope and what to monitor (for Creation/Change).

Pick notification channel

Email (immediate), in-app, or daily digest. Different severities can route to different channels.

Name and save

Use a descriptive name like CPC +25% - All Campaigns. Activates immediately.

Customize thresholds based on your actual variance. Default templates are starting points, not finished alerts.

Setting good thresholds

  • Use history. Look at your actual metric variance before setting thresholds.
  • Avoid too sensitive. Triggers on normal fluctuation → alert fatigue.
  • Avoid too loose. Never triggers → no value.
  • Iterate. Start with a guess and refine.

Naming

Patterns that scale:

  • [Metric] - [Scope]CPC - Brand Campaigns
  • [Goal] - [Target]Lead Goal - 500/month
  • [Type] - [Audience]New Campaign - Network

Document the response

For each alert, write down what to check when it triggers:

AlertCommon causes
High CPCAudience saturation, creative fatigue, competitive pressure
Low CTRCreative fatigue, audience mismatch
Spend thresholdBudget misconfiguration, runaway delivery
Conversion dropPixel issue, broken landing page, offer fatigue
